Major fire burning on Notre-Dame Street in Old Montreal

Dozens of people are out of their homes and two people have been sent to hospital after a major fire broke out on Notre-Dame Street on Friday morning.

Jonathan Michaud of the Montreal fire department says fire is still not under control.

The fire department has sent about 125 firefighters and 50 trucks to the scene, which is near the corner of Notre-Dame and Bonsecours streets.

Michaud told CBC the fire broke out on the bottom floor of a three-storey building where a restaurant is located.

One person is being treated for shock and another for burns. Approximately 40 people from an adjacent building were forced out and are being supported by the Red Cross.
