Cody Fajardo (personal reasons) doesn’t practice

Alouettes starting quarterback Cody Fajardo wasn’t at the team’s first practice of the week for personal reasons. Davis Alexander, who has started four games for the Als this season, took all the first-team reps on Thursday afternoon.

“He’s a father again,” head coach Jason Maas said after practice. “That’s all I’ll say. He and his wife had a baby boy. He’s at home with her right now with the kids. We’re expecting him to be back.

“We expect him to be back for Monday’s game against Ottawa. That’s what the expectation is, but plans can change.”

The 32-year-old has completed 73 percent of his passes for 2,867 yards. He’s also thrown 15 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions. With Fajardo at quarterback, the Als have beaten the Redblacks twice this season.

Austin Mack returns to field:

The Alouettes also saw receiver Austin Mack return to practice for the first time since he suffered an injury last month. Mack, who also became a father of two over the bye week, joined the Alouettes in August after a stint with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. He played in one game before injuring himself in practice.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back out there on the field,” Mack, who missed the last four games due to an ankle injury, said. “The guys and the training staff have done a great job helping me put together a really great plan so that I feel ready to go after this bye to finish this last three-game stretch.”

In 2023, the 27-year-old emerged as the Als’ top target in the passing game, as he finished with a team-high 1,154 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He also topped the 100-yard mark in last November’s Grey Cup.
