City of Montreal set to practice earthquake simulation on Thursday

The annual earthquake simulation exercise will take place on Thursday at 10:17 a.m. throughout Quebec.

The City of Montreal wants the public to join the awareness and preparation campaign.

They’re encouraging all citizens to practice the safest techniques during an earthquake: bend down, take shelter and wait until the tremors are over.

“Every year, on the third Thursday of October, the annual event of the ‘Grande Secousse du Québec’ is held. The purpose of this exercise is to raise awareness of earthquake risks and to encourage the public, families, communities, schools, and organizations to review and update their emergency response plans and equipment,” reads a press release.

The city says the goal is to promote good behaviours and encourage the population to secure their homes to limit property damage.
