FIQ accepts conciliator’s recommendation, putting an end to negotiations with Quebec

Nurses and other Quebec health-care workers voted in favour of a conciliator’s recommendation to renew their collective agreement after several months of negotiations with the provincial government.

The roughly 80,000 members of the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ) voted 66.3 per cent in favour of the recommendation, putting an end to negotiations.

“Our members have decided to accept this recommendation, even though it does not respond to all their concerns,” said FIQ President Julie Bouchard in a statement Thursday.

“The FIQ will continue its fight for better working conditions and safe care, while remaining determined to defend the stability of the teams, which is essential to the quality of care.”

More to come.
