Laval police (SPL) arrested a 14-year-old on Thursday in connection to threatening calls that led to several schools going into lockdown recently in Laval.
The teenager was arrested at his family home.
After meeting with investigators, he appeared in Quebec youth court, and was charged with making threats, public mischief, and a breach of his conditions.
He will return to court on Oct. 21.
On Tuesday, L’Odyssée-des-Jeunes and Georges-Vanier high school went into lockdown after receiving threatening phone calls. Last week, a similar incident took place at Poly-Jeunesse and the Laval School of Specialized Trades.
Each time, the threat was proven to be fabricated.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
“The SPL would like to remind everyone that anyone who initiates a call to 911 or who starts a false police investigation is exposed to criminal charges, starting at the age of 12. We invite parents to make their children aware of the repercussions of their actions,” said the police.
SPL officers said they will continue to ensure “increased visibility” in certain public places.
