For the fourth time in less than a week, the Montreal police are investigating whether a vehicle found in flames in the city is a case of arson.

Montreal police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc said someone called 911 after 4 a.m. Saturday to report seeing a vehicle on fire in a commercial parking lot in Montreal North on Industriel Blvd. close to Pie-IX Blvd.

“When police officers arrived, firefighters were already in the process of extinguishing the flames,” Dubuc said. “The car is a total loss. There was no incendiary items found nearby, but because of the suspicious circumstances the case has been turned over to the Montreal police arson squad.”

On Thursday, three vehicles parked in front of a home in Île Bizard were set ablaze and completely destroyed.

Surveillance cameras captured images of two suspects fleeing the scene, and firefighters found traces of flammable accelerants at the site.

Monday night, four vehicles were set on fire in the parking lot of a garage in the Mercier—Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. Earlier that same day, two vehicles were badly damaged in a blaze set around 2:50 a.m. on Sabrevois St. near St-Vital Blvd. in the Montreal North borough. That incident was just a few blocks away from where the burning car was found Saturday morning.

On Friday in Longueuil, police were called in to investigate after three vehicles were found in flames in the parking lot of a business on de Chambly Rd. in the St-Hubert sector. Hour after receiving the first call, at around 12:45 a.m. Longueuil police investigators determined the vehicles were deliberately set on fire.
