Man who fled Nova Scotia after 2021 homicide arrested in Montreal: RCMP

Police say a suspect wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for murder was arrested in Montreal Friday, three days after being added to the country’s most wanted list.

RCMP say Valdo “C.J.” Pauyo was arrested in connection with the death of Douglas “Bert” Knockwood in July 2021 in Millbrook, N.S. They say the accused fled Nova Scotia after the alleged murder.

Police say they received a tip about a possible sighting of Pauyo after he was added to the national Bolo Program’s list of top-25 fugitives in Canada. Pauyo was no. 20 on that list.

“As part of their investigation and acting on the tip, RCMP officers travelled to Québec,” police said in a news release.

Officers with the Quebec RCMP Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) and the RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit arrested Pauyo “without incident.” The accused was flown back to Nova Scotia the following day.

He is scheduled to appear before Supreme Court in Truro, N.S., on May 7.

The police investigation is ongoing.
