Man stabbed in downtown Montreal

A 52-year-old man is in hospital after being stabbed in Montreal’s Cabot Square overnight.

According to Montreal police (SPVM), the attack happened around 3 a.m. in a park near Sainte-Catherine Street and Atwater Avenue.

When officers arrived, the man was injured “in the upper body,” but he was still conscious.

He was transported to hospital but his life is not considered in danger.

“According to initial information, a conflict broke out in Cabot Square Park between the victim and possibly two suspects. It was during the conflict that the victim was injured with a bladed weapon and subsequently, the suspect(s) fled before police arrived,” explained SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

A security perimeter has been set up to allow investigators to analyze the scene.

“Checks will be made on possible surveillance cameras located near the scene,” added Chèvrefils.

The victim is known to police.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is currently ongoing.

According to police, the suspect(s) will be charged with assault.
