A video of the incident – which took place on Jeanne-Mance Street in Montreal’s Plateau – was widely shared on social media. It was called “shocking” by Mayor Valérie Plante.

SPVM opened an investigation to find the cyclist on Friday.

“Important update, the cyclist involved turned herself in to the police,” wrote Mayer Feig on his X account Friday evening. Feig posted the initial video that was shared widely the day before.

“I would like to commend the @SPVM for the professional handling of this event, and their commitment to raise awareness in the neighborhood in the near future. All we want is a safe sharing of the road by all.”

The video of the incident shows the cyclist striking the child as she crosses the bike lane, with the yellow school bus waiting for her on the other side of the street. Both the cyclist and girl were knocked to the ground.
