They were placed in a detention cell Friday evening, the agency said.
Around 2 p.m., the individual was found unconscious in the cell.
First aid was provided, the BEI said, but the person was declared dead on the scene.
The BEI, which did not provide the individual’s age, said no other information is currently available.
The agency investigates any time someone, other than an on-duty police officer, is killed or injured during a police operation or while they are in police custody.
