A man was shot just before noon on Wednesday on a street in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce during a physical altercation with a suspect or suspects who fled the scene before police arrived.

Constable Sabrina Gauthier of the Montreal police service said police received a 911 call around 11:55 a.m. Wednesday reporting the sound of gunshots.

She said the 27-year-old victim was shot on Montclair Ave. near Fielding Ave. He was taken to a hospital with injuries to his lower body that were not thought to be life-threatening.

Police were analyzing the scene for clues and interviewing witnesses Wednesday afternoon. No arrests had been made. Police set up a perimeter around the area, with Montclair Ave. closed between Fielding Ave. and Chester Ave., and Fielding was closed between Walkley Ave. and Rosedale Ave.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said which city Montclair Ave. and Fielding Ave. are in. They are in the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough of Montreal, not in Côte-St-Luc.
