Delayed almost a year: Construction on Louis-Hyppolyte-La Fontaine tunnel

The construction on the Louis-Hyppolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, which connects the island of Montreal to the South Shore, will be at least a year late.

The closure of three out of six lanes is reportedly scheduled to end in fall 2026, according to La Presse — instead of Nov. 2025.

They say that the entire construction project must be postponed for several months, or even almost a year, due to several factors, including the paused work last summer after mould was discovered in a service corridor in the tunnel.

The project was set to end in 2026, but the delays, they say, could possibly push it further further away.

Adding that the Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, is set to make an announcement on the subject this month.
