A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday after being stabbed during a brawl that erupted in Montreal North.

According to Montreal police, someone called 911 to report a victim with upper body stab wounds around 4:40 p.m.

Police say a fight had broken out between several people and escalated when one of those involved stabbed the victim with a sharp object.

After speaking with witnesses, police believe the fight started over a stolen bicycle.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but was stable by evening.

The stabbing occurred near the intersection of Pelletier Ave. and Henri-Bourassa Blvd. No arrests had been made in the stabbing as of Monday evening.

“Investigators are on site to analyze the scene and try to understand the circumstances,” said police spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier.
