Construction worker dies after ‘accident’ in downtown Montreal

A construction worker died Wednesday morning after an accident at a condo site in downtown Montreal.

The incident happened at around 11:15 a.m., at a construction site located at Square-Phillips and Cathcart streets.

The worker is said to have been in his 20s and was operating machinery from ground level when material reportedly attached to the top of a crane may have fallen – and hit him.

He is said to have died immediately.

The site, which is managed by the Magil Construction company, was temporarily closed.

The investigation will be conducted by the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), in collaboration with the Montreal police (SPVM).
