Woman arrested after attempted kidnapping in Montreal

A 25-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday night after she allegedly tried to kidnap a pre-school aged child in the Ville-Marie borough – in downtown Montreal.

It happened around 7:20 p.m. in the backyard of a residential building on Montcalm street, near De Maisonneuve.

She reportedly jumped the fence and tried to take the young child.

Neighbours quickly intervened and alerted the grandparents, who were watching the child from a balcony above – and the woman ran off.

Authorities were called and witnesses were able to give Montreal police (SPVM) a full description.

The woman was arrested two hours later and is expected to face charges in court on Friday.

SPVM say the suspect has no ties to the child’s family.

The child was not injured.
