Police locate suspect in Natashquan, Que., after warning residents to stay indoors

Quebec provincial police say they have captured a suspect who was on the run in Natashquan, Que.

During the search Wednesday afternoon, police urged residents to stay indoors as officers searched for the suspect, who they said may be armed. Natashquan is in the Côte-Nord region, more than 1,000 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the suspect was reportedly seen in the area of Route 138, and during the search, the roadway was closed between the municipalities of Kegaska and Pointe-Parent. It has since reopened.

The SQ advised residents to lock their doors, move away from windows and leave the area if it was safe to do so.

They also urged citizens to report any sightings of the suspect to 911, but not to approach him. Police did not disclose what the suspect may be armed with and are providing few details about the arrest.

The SQ says the investigation is ongoing.
