The 14th edition of Montreal Comiccon kicks off

The 14th edition of Montreal Comiccon is taking place this weekend, from July 5th to 7th, at Palais des congrès in Old Montreal.

Originally launched in 2009, the convention is quickly growing in popularity, and has become an annual event. Last year, 60,000 attendees attended the convention over the weekend.

The multi-genre pop culture convention showcases the entertainment universe, with everything from comic books, to sci-fi, horror, anime, toys, movies, and video games.

“Come on down to Comiccon, it’s fun,” said Melinda Clarke, an actress who will be present at Comiccon.

The programming for the three-day event will be diverse, with three floors waiting to be discovered. This includes an exhibit room, an artist alley, corporate and interactive booths, and fun activities for all ages.

Convention goers even have opportunity to get a glimpse of celebrities on stage and attend panels. They can get up close and personal with their favourite guest and purchase autographs and photo opportunities.

Actress, Heather Langenkamp, from A Nightmare on Elm Street enjoys meeting her fans.

This year, Comiccon is honouring the 40th anniversary of the franchise.

“When I meet my young fans, I get transported back to being a teenager again. I always feel so grateful to them to remind me what an amazing character Nancy Thompson was and how much she changed so many people’s lives,” she said.

Voice actors, and comic book creators, will also be present.

Film screenings, a costume contest, workshops, and a masquerade, are some of the many attractions a part of this weekends convention.

“Love being in Montreal, one of my favorite cities in Canada, and it’s excellent because at Comic-Con, the fans get to come right up to the table and we talk to them and stuff,” said Mike Smith, who portrays Bubbles in the television series, Trailer Park Boys.

“We’re here at Comic-Con all weekend. Come on down.”
