STE-MÉLANIE — A 63-year-old was in critical condition Sunday after being thrown from his motorcycle in Quebec’s Lanaudière region when it was struck by a vehicle driven by an 86-year-old woman. Authorities fear for his life.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Ste-Mélanie, about 20 kilometres north of Joliette, at about 12:30 p.m., said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Adam Marineau.

According to preliminary information, the motorcyclist was heading east along Rang 2 when the driver of the other vehicle, which had been heading west along the same road, turned left to access a commercial property, said Marineau.

The woman, who was not injured, was to meet with police, he said. Rang 2 was closed for an expert in collision investigation to examine the scene and determine the circumstances of the accident.
