The incident began at about 8 p.m., when Montreal police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a conflict involving a firearm at the intersection of De Salaberry Blvd. and Davignon St. in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.

Officers arriving at the scene eventually found themselves confronted by persons who had been hit by gunfire and a suspect inside a car who opened fire as the attempted to flee the scene. Montreal police returned fire and as many as 40 shots were exchanged.

The Montreal police response to the incident is now being probed by Quebec’s office of independent investigations (BEI) while the Sûreté du Québec has set up a command post at the site as part of its criminal investigation into the shootings themselves.
