Quebec’s police watchdog has opened investigations into two police shootings in Joliette and Trois-Rivières, including one in which officers fatally shot a man.
In the first incident, in Trois-Rivières, municipal police officers responded to a call Sunday night about a man allegedly wielding an axe and acting erratically in the city.
According to the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), when officers arrived at the scene around 8 p.m., the man was perched on a public monument. Police said they were unable to communicate with him.
