Major water main break floods Montreal near the Jacques Cartier Bridge

A major water main broke near the Jacques Cartier Bridge in Montreal on Friday morning, spilling large quantities of water into the surrounding streets.

A large quantity of water could be seen being projected into the air, flooding certain sections of René-Lévesque Boulevard and Papineau Street in particular.

The leak began around 6 a.m.

Montreal police officers, as well as firefighters, were dispatched to the scene to close the impassable streets.

The cause of the break was not immediately known.
