Climate: PLQ calls for an update on infrastructure resilience

The Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) is requesting a initiative mandate from the chair of the Land Use Planning Commission to take stock of the resilience of municipal infrastructure, its adaptation to climate change and the management of disasters such as flooding.

The PLQ initiative “aims to inform parliamentarians of the extent of the investments required for our infrastructure as well as the current legislative and regulatory framework surrounding assistance to citizens in the event of disasters.”

In a press release issued Monday morning, Liberal MNAs Michelle Setlakwe, Virginie Dufour and Jennifer Maccarone maintain that they are concerned “about the aging infrastructure stock in Quebec, and believe that there is reason to question the state of renewal of this critical infrastructure and the programs available to accelerate its replacement or increase its capacity as well as the types of infrastructure that will be necessary in the future.”

They believe that hearing from experts and organizations from the municipal sector, in a parliamentary committee, would allow a fair picture of the situation to be drawn up.
