The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will be completely closed during the weekend of Sept. 6, the Transport Ministry announced.

The closure will allow for the construction of the new bridge’s drainage network and a new configuration on eastbound Highway 40. Maintenance work will also be carried out, including the installation of a membrane and asphalt.

The bridge will be closed from 11:59 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday.

During that period, westbound Highway 40 between Exit 41 and the St-Charles Ave. entrance will be completely closed to traffic, as will eastbound Highway 40 between Exit 35 and the des Anciens-Combattants Blvd. entrance. Those travelling west can use Senneville Rd. instead of the highway. Those travelling east are asked to prioritize Highways 20 and 30.

Tolls in both directions on Highway 30 will be suspended.

“During this closure, the population is invited to use public transportation and take advantage of the mitigation measures in place,” the ministry said. “(We) recommend that road users who will have to travel in the area allow more time to get to their destination.”

Work could be postponed in the event of bad weather.

A total closure of the bridge will also be required the weekend of Sept. 20.
