Body of man in early 20s recovered near Verdun Beach in possible drowning

A body was recovered Friday around 10 p.m. near Verdun Beach by divers from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The body had been spotted earlier in the evening by the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) and the SPVM, who were looking for a missing person.

The search was launched after emergency services were notified, around 4:45 p.m., of a possible drowning, according to the SPVM.

The SIM, with the help of the Montreal police, then began searching, dispatching two boats to find the person.

The body was spotted near the beach around 8 p.m., said the SIM. The help of SOVM divers was requested to recover the body and to identify it and determine if it is indeed the missing person.

Emergency services were not immediately able to provide the identity of the deceased, a man in his early 20s.
