A group of teens hit by driver in Îles-de-la-Madeleine, minor injuries

A dozen teenagers were hit by a driver on the site of a high school in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine on Monday afternoon, following an altercation with a pedestrian.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reports that the accident caused only minor injuries to some of the students.

Emergency services were called to the site of a school in L’Étang-du-Nord at around 1:30 p.m. local time.

According to initial information from the SQ, the driver of a vehicle hit a pedestrian, slightly injuring him. This was followed by an altercation between the pedestrian and the occupants of the car.

“Subsequently, the driver backed up to leave the scene and came into contact with several teenagers during his maneuver,” said SQ spokesman Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies.

Some of the teens were taken to hospital to treat minor injuries.

The motorist is being questioned by police. The investigation is continuing in order to shed light on this event.
