Quebec launches first environmental volunteer network

Several environmental organizations launched Quebec’s first national environmental volunteer network called VolonTerre Québec in Montreal on Monday morning, to facilitate environmental protection and volunteerism.

VolonTerre is an online platform that connects environmental organizations in Quebec with volunteers who want to get involved in environmental causes.

“It’s a bit like the Tinder of the environment,” said Alain Branchaud, General Director of the Société pour la nature et les parcs (SNAP) Québec, at a press conference.

“We also want people who sign up as volunteers to have opportunities to meet people or receive training in return. It has to be a two-way street for it to last in the long term.”

The platform also aims to strengthen a volunteers’ sense of belonging by offering a network filled with events and workshops.

VolonTerre plans to organize “recognition events” to reward the contribution of volunteers who have been involved in conservation and ecological transition efforts in Quebec.

The SNAP Space, located on Saint-Denis Street in Montreal, will be a free space where volunteers can meet.

VolonTerre is the result of a collaboration between several Quebec environmental organizations such as Climate Reality Canada, Nature Quebec, Équiterre and the David Suzuki Foundation.
