Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters clashed with Montreal police Wednesday afternoon inside the Guy-Concordia métro station.
At one point, protesters threw paper and at least one drink at police.
Protesters chanted “shame, shame” as police handcuffed several people inside the métro station.
Police were surrounded by protesters and retreated into a room in the station.
At least two people were arrested in the métro station. Another person was arrested outside.
Police closed the tunnel linking Guy-Concordia to Concordia University as a precaution.
Other protesters blocked de Maisonneuve Blvd. in front of the university, marching and chanting “free, free Palestine.”
Concordia briefly shut down access to its buildings on the downtown campus Wednesday afternoon.
Inside the library building, there was anti-Israel graffiti on the walls, as well as messages accusing Concordia of being complicit in a genocide. At least one student was seen tearing down flyers accusing the university of having blood on its hands.
Protests in support of the Palestinian people were planned for several universities across the country Wednesday afternoon.
