Raids on drug and arms trafficking network in Montreal area and more

Multiple police forces are taking part in a major operation on Thursday aimed at neutralizing a drug and arms trafficking network operating in the Montreal and Quebec City regions.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, which is coordinating Thursday’s operation, more than 100 police and civilian resources are being deployed in a dozen cities to conduct searches.

The provincial police force specified that this operation stems from an investigation initiated in October 2023. It led to the arrest of 11 people involved in an illegal firearms trafficking network.

In the Montreal area, the searches took place in Pointe-Claire, Longueuil, Boucherville, Saint-Hubert, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Mercier, Saint-Roch-de-Richelieu, Repentigny and Saint-Côme.

Other searches are also taking place in Sainte-Émilie-de-l’Énergie, Fossambault-sur-le-Lac and Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier.
