2 women to appear in Longueuil, Que., court in connection with Amber Alert

Two women are slated to appear in a Longueuil, Que., courtroom on Wednesday morning in connection with the alleged abduction of a 5-year-old boy earlier this week.

The women, 65 and 48, who were arrested in York Region, near Toronto, will appear by video conference.

One of the women could face a kidnapping charge, a spokesperson for Quebec’s provincial police force, the SQ, said in an interview.

The police are not yet naming the women, nor their precise relationship with the family whose son was taken from their home in Brossard, Que., on Monday evening.

The abduction prompted police to issue an Amber Alert early Tuesday morning. It was cancelled later that day after the boy was found safe.
