Canadian women’s rugby 7s team to face New Zealand for Olympic gold after stunning Australia

The Canadian women’s rugby sevens team advanced to the gold-medal game at the Paris Olympics with a 21-12 upset win over second-ranked Australia on Tuesday at Stade de France.

Charity Williams, Asia Hogan-Rochester and Piper Logan scored tries for the fifth-ranked Canadians, who also stunned world No. 3 France in the quarterfinals on Monday.

Top-ranked New Zealand defeated the United States 24-12 in the other semifinal, with the gold-medal match set for later Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. ET.

Canada is searching for its second Olympic medal in rugby sevens, having captured bronze at the Rio Games in 2016.
