Concordia reaches agreement-in-principle with professionals’ union

The union representing 600 Concordia University staff members who walked off the job earlier this month said Thursday its members had approved an agreement-in-principle with the university.

In a media release, the union, CUPEU-CSN, said the university had agreed to include hybrid work guidelines in a new collective agreement — their main demand.

More than 90 per cent of the union’s members voted in favour of the deal.

CUPEU-CSN represents professional staff at Concordia, including advisors, co-ordinators and psychologists.

They walked off the job for two days in early September.

CUPEU–CSN president Shoshana Kalfon previously described the university’s policy on hybrid and remote work as “inequitable.”

In a statement on Thursday, she said the university had agreed to allow union members a minimum of 30 per cent remote work over two weeks.

Concordia University did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
