Highway 13 in Dorval reopens, but will close again this weekend for remaining work

The Dorval tunnel on Highway 13 in Montreal reopened to traffic Thursday morning after being closed last week due to flooding.

In a morning news release, Quebec’s Transport Ministry says Highway 13 is now reopened to motorists between Highways 40 and 520.

The government had asked road users to avoid the area after last week’s heavy rainfall damaged the tunnel’s pumping station and led to severe water accumulation.

The ministry said teams have been working to restore temporary pumping capacity and lighting in the tunnel.

However, this stretch of the highway will close again from Friday 11:59 p.m. to Sunday 5 a.m., to continue work on the pumping station, which could take several weeks.

“With the rain forecast, the closure will also allow the ministry to ensure that the pumping system is effective in removing water from the traffic lanes,” the release reads.

For the sake of co-ordination, officials say, the closure of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge scheduled for this weekend is cancelled.

People are encouraged to check Québec 511 for updates before travelling.
