Man charged with 1st-degree murder in death of ex-wife

A 71-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after his ex-wife was killed in Montreal’s Saint-Michel neighbourhood Saturday.

Just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police received a call about a dispute at a home on Bélair Street, near 21st Avenue.

Officers found 55-year-old Naima Rezzek inside an apartment with injuries to her upper body. They tried to resuscitate her before declaring her dead at the scene.

At around the same time, Brahim Naili went to a police station to inform them of an incident at the same address, said Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant.

Police cruisers and an ambulance are parked near a security perimeter.

Naili was then arrested. He appeared in court Sunday.

Rezzek’s death marks 13th homicide on the island of Montreal since the start of the year.
