Residents of Kahnawà:ke have elected a new Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council. The responsibility of Grand Chief is known as ‘Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs’ in Kanien’kéha. Cody Diabo was elected last weekend as the Kanien’kehá:ka community’s fifth grand chief. The elections come during the same week as the Assembly of First Nations gather for their general assembly in downtown Montreal. We spoke with Grand Chief Cody Diabo.
