Taschereau Boul. reopens after ‘major’ gas leak in Longueuil, Que.

A “major” natural gas leak forced local police in Longueuil, Que., to limit circulation along Taschereau Boulevard on Sunday.

The incident was reported around 9:15 a.m., said François Boucher, a spokesperson for the Service de Police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL).

At that time, police closed the street in both directions. The lanes in direction toward Brossard reopened later on Sunday.

The stretch of the boulevard between Curé-Poirier Boulevard and the Jacques-Cartier bridge has also since reopened.

The leak appeared to be due to a broken underground gas pipe, Boucher said, adding that gas distributor Énergir was onsite investigating.

No injuries were reported.
