The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) made an arrest Thursday afternoon in the case of a missing woman from Hemmingford, about 60 kilometres south of Montreal — near the U.S. border.
A man in his 30s is in custody following the disappearance of 29-year-old Kelsey Watt, who was last seen on Saturday.
On Thursday morning, provincial police said they located a woman’s body near a home in Hemmingford, but did not confirm the identity. An autopsy is expected to be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
SQ reports that Watt was last seen Sept. 21 at around 12:30 p.m. on Covey Hill Road in Hemmingford.
“The individual is currently being interviewed by investigators to clarify his possible involvement in the case,” provincial police said in press release.
No charges have been laid.
On Sunday, SQ said search operations were underway in the Hemmingford area.
“As a result, we have mobilized several resources, including a command post, a ground search coordinator, emergency unit patrols, ATV patrols, divers, a dog handler, the equestrian team, the helicopter rescue team and Sûreté du Québec investigators. We also work closely with Royal Canadian Mounted Police patrol officers, the local fire department and members of the public.”
On Wednesday, the ground search for Watts had been suspended by authorities.
