Bar in Verdun targeted by arsonists for second time: SPVM

A bar in Verdun was targeted by a suspected arson attack for the second time in four days.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday about a smashed window in a building on Wellington Street, between Hickson and Regina.

Officers say the suspect(s) then threw an incendiary object inside the bar.

A fire erupted, but the flames went out on their own and caused minor damage.

There was no one inside the building and there were no reported injuries.

A security perimeter has been set up to allow investigators to analyze the scene.

The SPVM said this establishment was the target of a similar incident over the weekend.

On Saturday, at around 4:30 a.m., SPVM were called to the scene because suspects allegedly smashed the front door of the same bar and set it on fire, before fleeing on foot.

Again, the fire extinguished itself and the damages were minor.
