City of Montreal transforming LaSalle municipal parking lot into a park

The City of Montreal announced Tuesday it will be transforming a municipal parking lot in the LaSalle borough into a park.

It will be located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Centrale Street, near the commercial area.

In a press release, the City said it is a strategic location that “will become a lively place.”

“In laboratory mode, the LaSalle borough and the City of Montreal intend to test the community’s needs for this new space,” said the head of urban planning on the executive committee of the City of Montreal, Robert Beaudry. “By bringing the population together around the park project, we wish to foreshadow together a lasting vocation for the place.”

According to mayor of the borough of LaSalle, Nancy Blanchet, the conversion of the parking lot into a green space is “perfectly in line with the orientation of an ecological transition for a green and resilient future of LaSalle’s 2023-2030 strategic planning.”

“In addition to the commercial revitalization efforts deployed by the borough and business people, this project is in harmony with our desire to energize neighborhood life and propose sustainable initiatives while creating islands of freshness,” she added.

The design phase of the project is set for 2025, and the work is expected to start in the fall of next year.
