COVID-19 cases on the rise in Quebec

Health experts are closely monitoring the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Quebec.

According to data from July 2, the Institut national de santé publique du Québec (INSPQ) reported 671 patients who were hospitalized with a positive diagnosis of COVID-19.

The number of positive tests has been climbing since April 7, 2024.

The INSPQ noted that 12.9 per cent of the 3,746 eligible COVID-19 tests taken during the week of June 30 were positive.

Experts say the latest mutation of COVID-19 has caused more people to become infected once again.

Also, they add that the number of vacations and trips outside Canada and Quebec has led to new mutations of the virus.

Pharmaceutical companies hope to deliver a vaccine booster to better fight the COVID-19 variants by early fall.

In total, there have 518 deaths recorded since January 2024 in Quebec, with 50 in June related to COVID-19.
