Major renovations in National Assembly ‘Blue Room’ begin Monday

Renovations in the National Assembly “Blue Room” are set to begin Monday.

The well-known hall requires major restoration work to update the safety and accessibility standards.

According to the Quebec government, they also want to preserve certain aspects in the room, due to its historical significance.

The budget for the renovations totals $32.2 million.

“A diagnosis of the condition of the chamber will be carried out by two architectural and engineering firms, in collaboration with the Centre de conservation du Québec,” reads a press release. “This amount covers the awarding of professional services and procurement contracts, the restoration and temporary fitting out of the Legislative Council Chamber, the renovation and restoration of the National Assembly Chamber, and the redevelopment of the Legislative Council Chamber to return it to its original purpose.”

During the renovations, meeting will be held in the Legislative Council Chamber, known as the “Red Room,” which has also been under construction. This will help limit interruptions and bring down costs.

Sittings in the National Assembly Chamber will resume on Sept. 10.
