A 26-year-old suspect has been charged with attempted murder and multiple charges for his alleged involvement in a violent shooting in Dollard-des-Ormeaux on Montreal’s West Island Sunday night.

Nickael Hickey from St-Laurent allegedly tried to steal a vehicle from a 54-year-old man and his 18-year-old son. Soon after, multiple shots were fired, striking the two bystanders.

According to witnesses, between 30 to 40 shots were fired between the suspect and Montreal police (SPVM) officers.

The two victims and the suspect were injured by gunfire, but their lives were not in danger.

The suspect appeared at the Montreal courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, where he faced charges including one count of attempted murder. He is expected to be appear again on Wednesday morning.

According to Le Journal, Hickey was released on bail two weeks ago for crimes related breaking and entering.

Hickey was also charged with violating a court order after possessing a weapon and breaking his bail conditions he agreed to follow on July 24.

Quebec’s Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) is investigating the case, alongside the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

According to the BEI, Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call about an argument that broke out with potential gunshots heard on the corner of Salaberry Blvd. and Davignon Street in DDO. The suspect left the residence and pointed a firearm at a motorist’s vehicle, prompting them to drive away from the scene.
