Man hospitalized after assault in downtown Montreal

A 52-year-old man is in hospital after being assaulted in downtown Montreal overnight.

According to Montreal police (SPVM), the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of Saint-Antoine Street and Lusignan Street.

“We don’t know why the suspect allegedly attacked the victim,” explained SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

Officers claim the man suffered injuries to the “upper body” by a blunt object.

The victim’s life is not considered to be in danger.

A 44-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is expected to meet with investigators on Monday.

The SPVM said a dog from the canine unit was able to locate him.

Police note the victim, and the suspect did not know each other, and the investigation is ongoing.
