Meet Aurore Sebuyangeo, crowned Miss Quebec 2024

Aurore Singiza Sebuyangeo has been crowned as Miss Quebec 2024.

For nearly 70 years, the Miss Quebec experience is a celebration of personality.

Every year, three winners are crowned: Miss Pre Teen Quebec (eight to 12 years old), Miss Teen Quebec (13 to 17 years old) and Miss Quebec (18 to 33 years old).

This year, it was the 22-year-old that got the title. Sebuyangeo also plays basketball in her spare time in Laval.

“It still feels a little bit unreal but I’m really excited to see what I have to offer,” said Sebuyangeo. “I really hope everybody can live the Miss Quebec adventure because it’s really once in a lifetime experience.”

The competition is a year-long journey where girls and women from all over Quebec can develop their self confidence and create long-lasting friendships.

After signing up, hundreds of candidates participate in activity days.

From bowling, cruising the Saint Lawrence River, to self-defence classes and public speaking, the candidates are evaluated on criteria like team spirit and participation.

The goal is to promote self-esteem and form friendships.

“When I heard my name, I was like oh that’s me. So, I just came but then it’s when they put the crown then I realized like oh I won, so it’s really after like a moment or two that I really felt grateful and happy,”  she said.

A good deed must also be completed – to demonstrate selflessness.

Sebuyangeo read books to young students and hopes to continue this on a wider scale.

“It’s really easy to have a big impact on people’s lives you know just a smile open the doors some little stuff like that,” said Sebuyangeo.

During the galas, the audience is immersed in guest performances while the judges score the candidates based on their speeches and how they present themselves on stage.

“There was my whole family, so my two parents and my three sisters were there. I could hear them yelling and I could hear one of my sisters. She has a loud voice. I could hear them cheer the whole time, so I almost laughed but yeah it was such beautiful,” explained Sebuyangeo.

Over 150,000 candidates have applied for Miss Quebec since its creation in 1956.

“It’s a once in a lifetime experience. You really get to mature and see yourself in other people’s eyes and meet some new friends. It’s really just a fun thing to do, you know? You get new stories.”
