Minor fire at Château Frontenac in Quebec City

Guests staying at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City had to get out of bed when a fire broke out in a mechanical room early Tuesday morning. The fire was quickly brought under control, and there were no injuries.

Emergency services were alerted at around 4:50 a.m. to smoke spreading over the 14th floor of the luxury hotel in Old Quebec.

According to initial reports, a fire had broken out in a mechanical room, triggering the sprinklers.

Guests staying on this floor had to leave their rooms and head for the first floor.

At around 5:40 a.m., the fire department responded to a third alarm, but about 20 minutes later, the fire was brought under control.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, as has the extent of the damage.

The flames did not spread outside the mechanical room where they originated.
