Montreal still under weather alert following remnants of Hurricane Beryl

The remnants of Hurricane Beryl brought significant amounts of rain to Montreal on Wednesday, with some neighbourhoods receiving up to 100 mm of rain in southern Quebec.

Montreal was particualry hard hit.

The wet weather left drivers stranded on the roads for hours on Wednesday afternoon, closing numerous highways, including parts of Decarie and Highway 30. Some were even forced to exit their vehicles amid the rising water levels on the roads.

The city’s 311 line received about 3,000 calls on Wednesday, about half of those related to water accumulation and flooding.

And the rainfall warning is still in effect for Thursday.

Environment Canada says an additional 15 to 25 mm of rain is expected to fall this morning.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” reads the weather statement. “Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.”

On Friday, a mix of sun and clouds with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 26. The humidex will feel like 35 degrees with a low of 20.

Similar temperatures expected over the weekend.

On Saturday, sunny skies with a high of 29 and a low of 20.

More sunshine Sunday, with a high of 29 and a low of 21. There will be a 60 per cent chance of showers.

On Monday, a mix of sun and clouds with a 60 per cent chance of showers. A high of 29 and a low of 20 degrees.
