One person has died after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Trois-Rivières on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services received a call around 2:30 p.m. about a fire that started in a residential building on Notre-Dame Street East.
“According to preliminary information, it originated on the eighth floor before spreading to the ninth,” said Trois-Rivières police (DPTR).
“During the operation, a victim was found unconscious in one of the units and his death was confirmed at the scene. Given these facts, the case was transferred to the DPTR for a coroner’s investigation,” explained the DPTR.
About 150 people were evacuated from the building, and nearly 30 units are unliveable due to the damage.
Around 90 firefighters from Trois-Rivières, Shawinigan and Saint-Maurice responded to the call and the fire was extinguished around 6 p.m.
