Quebec law students offering free housing consultations ahead of moving day

Law students at the Quebec Bar judicial clinic will offer 500 free housing consultations to those in need ahead of moving day in the province – July 1.

“The Quebec Bar is sensitive to the legal needs of the population. Currently, what is most important is housing and the Bar can help concretely through its legal clinic,” said Director General of the Quebec Bar Catherine Ouimet.

The clinic will offer free in-person appointments in English and French at its centres in Montreal, Quebec City, Gatineau, and Sherbrooke.

It will also offer virtual appointments.

The clinic provides access to free legal advice offered by students of the École du Barreau under the close supervision of experienced lawyers.

“The supervising lawyers and the clinic team immediately raised their hands to lend a helping hand to help reduce the stress experienced by people who are at risk of losing their housing, who are facing increases in unreasonable rent, attempts at renoviction or illegal housing repossessions,” said Ouimet in a press release.

The clinic is open until mid-July. Then they’ll start back up again when the next set of law students begin in the fall.

Quebecers can submit a request to the Bar’s Legal Clinic on their website. (hyperlink)
