Rain for next 3 days could impact properties already hit by Aug. 9 storm, Environment Canada warns

Thunderstorms and more then 40 millimetres of rain were expected Monday for Montreal and other parts of southern and eastern Quebec.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the Montreal area as a result, with heavy downpours throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

It comes 10 days after record-breaking rainfall in the province, with many communities and residents still dealing with the effects.

“Ponding is possible in low-lying areas where the soil is already saturated,” the weather authority warned. “This rain may also have impacts near rivers, lakes and streams and on infrastructures previously affected by heavy rain associated with tropical storm Debby.

“Please remain vigilant in case of heavy rain. Avoid driving on flooded roads.”

Up to 200 millimetres of rain fell on Montreal and several other regions of Quebec in a 24-hour period on Aug. 9, causing widespread flooding, power outages and washed-out roads.

More rain was in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday before drier conditions on Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures cooled off from the weekend heat and humidity, dropping to 17 degrees Celsius in Montreal on Monday afternoon. A low of 12 C was expected overnight.
