RCMP investigating April 7 false bomb threat at Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) tell CityNews that they are reviewing the information about a false bomb threat that forced an emergency evacuation at the Museum of Fine Arts on April 7 in downtown Montreal.

They are working alongside the Montreal police (SPVM) to determine if there is a national security component.

According to authorities, around 11:20 a.m., a suspect contacted 911 using a false name and told the dispatcher he intended to blow up the premises.

He also added that two accomplices were headed towards the Eaton Centre – also in downtown Montreal.

Radio-Canada reports that SPVM cyber investigators were able to track down the individual and arrested the 18-year-old suspect.

He was questioned and released with a promise to appear in court, pending further legal proceedings.

“I can confirm that the RCMP is currently looking at the SPVM investigation to see if there is a national security component to it. We`re currently reviewing the evidence to make that determination. It is pretty much all we can share for the moment,” explained Sergeant Charles Poirier, spokesperson for the RCMP to CityNews.

The identity of the suspect has not been made public.
