The City of Montreal will give nearly 10,000 low-income families a free visit to one of the five Espace pour la vie sites: the Biodome, Biosphere, Insectarium, Botanical Garden, and Planetarium.
The initiative was launched over 20 years ago as part of Quebec Family Week, including the Children’s Policy, which aims to support young people in situations of vulnerability and poverty.
This year, 9,733 family tickets will be distributed to organizations that support the most vulnerable populations.
Vice-president of the executive committee Caroline Bourgeois said in a press release that the city is fortunate to have the five exhibits on its territory.
She added that all Montrealers should benefit from the experience.
“I wish families who visit the Biodome, the Biosphere, the Insectarium, the Botanical Garden or the Planetarium a great deal of fun and discovery,” Bourgeois said.
These free family passes have been available since 2002.
Montréal 2030
This initiative is part of the Montréal 2030 strategic plan to combat racism and systemic discrimination in society, to ensure inclusion, economic integration, urban security, and fulfillment for all.
According to Espace pour la vie director Julie Jodoin, connecting with nature is essential for the overall health and well-being of the population.
She said in a press release that initiatives like this contribute to a fairer and more inclusive ecological transition.
“I’m delighted to think of the smiles on the faces of the children who will marvel at our museums, discovering a biodiversity as rich as it is precious,” she added.
